Product Description
Brimming with active learning games and reproducible board games, this resource offers a wealth of materials that strengthen basic music concepts and reading skills. Through these games students have opportunities to practice identifying notes, rests, and other commonly used symbols as well as notes on the treble and bass clef staffs. In addition, students learn facts about famous composers with trivia games and identify familiar instruments through bingo games.

5 out of 5 stars Great For Homeschool Moms   June 3, 2000

This book is great for homeschool moms because the games can be played with as few as two children and most can be adapted to be played with the whole family. The book is fully reproducible and my kids love to color the game pieces.

The book teaches the Music Alphabet, Music Syllables (Do, Re, Me, etc.), Notes, Rests, and Reading Rhythms, Symbols, Reading the notes on the staff, Musical Instruments and Famous Composers all through a game format. The games are similar to Lotto, Fish, War, Board Games and Memory games, etc. The Rules are easy to follow and I copy them and include them in a Ziploc type bag with all the game parts so the kids can play without looking the rules up.

It's a great resource for any teacher, homeschool mom or not!

I am a Piano teacher with a large studio, a home-school Mom, and an active volunteer. I have been using this book for more than 3 years and hardly a week goes by that I don't use something from it. I have played these games with groups of 2 or 3 students and with as many as 25. The game are easy to learn, fun to play, and teach the topics well. The graphics are charming and I have used them often to create other music based games. Last year I taught a class to my Music Guild on teaching aids and this was #1 on my "must buy list". The Big Book of Music Games is worth its weight in gold>

4 out of 5 stars Music Games for few players   February 13, 2000

This book was not what I expected, but it still has many uses. I am a music teacher and was hoping for large-group games I could use with my K-3 classes. This book is fully reproducible and has some good ideas, but most games are more of the board-game type and can only use a couple players

4 out of 5 stars For Small or Large Groups   December 8, 2005

While it is true that many of the games are for only a couple of players, I use it all of the time. Children love having music centers in our classroom (they actually cheer!)and usually at least two of the centers will be games from this book.

The games are easy to create and learn to play. Most of all they teach musical concepts in a fun way. I'm so glad that I have this valuable resource.

This book contains wonderful games with easy to follow directions.
Games have variations and can be easily modified for your classes.
I like and use it so much that I buy it as a gift for my student teachers.
